My Little Corner of the World

Yes, it has been one month since I've written but I have been busy in my little corner of the world. Where would that be might you wonder? Well, even though I have many, I am currently talking about my garden.

We have had a wet spring and that has given me the opportunity to sit back and really plan what I wanted to put in for a garden this year. Well, the opportunity was there but I took no advantage of it. I spend my thinking time walking around the garden centers wondering what looks good and trying to decide if a certain vegetable is something my "guys" would eat.

I am on the final leg of my journey after hearing the weather forecast for today. I got up bright and early to finish putting in some plants I purchased yesterday. I think I have almost completed my mission.

In neat little rows and hills I have the following variety of veggies:

4 basil plants, 3 red peppers, 3 golden peppers, 3 Annaheim peppers, 2 hills of cucumbers, one each of the following tomatoes: Early girl, Better Bush, Juliette, Roma, and Supersteak, 1 melon plant, a row of Blue Lake green beans, and a row of snow peas. Almost forgot, my lovely lavender plant that I put in for the senses.

I still have room left. Might do some sweet potatoes, eggplant, sage, oregano, thyme, who knows? I'm making quite a bit of work for myself but there is nothing better on a cold winter's day than taking fresh veggies out of the freezer and cooking them up. We are so blessed to have such bounty available to us for a minimal amount of work. I'll keep you posted on the progress of the garden, unless the rabbits beat me to it!

An Uncluttered Calendar

Today is the first day of my 10 day hiatus from work, it's 9:15 AM and I am sitting here in my robe sipping on a cup of coffee. The joys of down time! I have no real agendas to tackle for the next few days, just things I must put on my calendar because I have been putting them off too long.

I have some leaking pipes in the basement. Every time we want to do a load of clothes I have to go down there and turn on the faucets for those pipes. Maybe it's time to get them fixed. And my oven hasn't been working right for about a year now, time to get that done! The house could use a thorough spring de-cluttering.................not sure about that one. I think I will take my mom on a surprise outing (put it on your calendar mom, if you're reading this). And then I have a lovely day of shopping planned with my friends

None of these are earth shattering have to get dones (except lunch with mom), so any phone call that promises me an adventure will fly right to the top of my list.

I just fixed my heart rate monitor so I should probably pursue my walking habit that I have missed. There are some books calling my name which should not be neglected, and of course the NCAA tournament will entertain this weekend. During that I have a baby afghan I'm working on.

Bored? It's not in my vocabulary!

Death and Taxes

They say only two things are certain in life, death and taxes. I have spent the biggest portion of my evening doing one of the above and I can imagine that you have guessed it is the taxes part! You're right. Anyway, we had a gorgeous day of 68 degrees and instead of a nice evening walk or curling up with a good book, we did taxes.

Farmers have to file by March 1 so Steve is meeting with our accountant tomorrow. All papers and figures are in order (we think) ready to be picked apart, studied, and recategorized tomorrow. Paying taxes is a necessary evil, but the thing I hate about it most is the time it takes to do it.

So, in order to live through this grueling task, I bought myself a sack of Dove dark chocolates with almonds. Dove has a way of soothing what ails you and makes it all better. Add to that some cups of red raspberry tea and who could complain? Besides, maybe, just maybe, I'll get something back in the form of a refund!

Self-improvement

I have decided that I need to get better about writing on this blog. There are so many people dependent on me for their link to the outside world that I have come to the conclusion that I am leaving them high and dry sooooooo....in the best interest of humankind, I am going to actually try and write most nights on this blog.

Not that Steve and I do that much that is exciting but we certainly do keep busy! When I think about what I have accomplished just today it makes my head swim and there might be people who actually care about what that was. I will not disclose those items at this time as I want to entice my viewers to come back and see what those things actually are.

Right now my guys are moving bulls and we haven't eaten yet. I have delicious hot roast beef sandwiches for supper and we'll indulge once they get home. I am getting ready for another evening of Olympic wonderment and trying to figure out a new online gradebook program that our school is going to. Think they'll supply us with notebooks since we are going to almost all computer? Could be a bargaining issue.

Anyway, enough for right now. Come back tomorrow and see what is up. You just might be amazed!
